EFAPCO set to break a 100-member barrier

The campaign being undertaken by the European Federation of the Associations of Professional Congress Organisers, towards greater recognition from the EU, continues to pay rich dividends in terms of member recruitment.

The Federation has nine national associations in membership, representing over 800 meetings industry professionals, including more than 300 dedicated PCOs. In addition there are 96 direct members, who welcome closer involvement with EFAPCO, ranging from event organisers and hotel groups to travel and transportation companies, exhibition organisers, university departments and trade media.

The latest EFAPCO Board Meeting, held in Rome, heard that the direct membership had risen to 97 and the Federation’s President Julio Abreu was confident that the tally would reach 100 when the organisation’s 3rd Annual Congress takes place in Warsaw, Poland, from January 10 to 12, 2008.

“Every new member helps to increase our voice, and influence, along the corridors of European power where we are pressing hard for proper recognition of our contribution towards ensuring that Europe remains the world’s leading conference destination.

“Our progress has been recognised in other quarters, as well,” Abreu added. “This year EFAPCO became the first PCO-based body to be invited to join the World Tourism Organisation’s Affiliate Members Council.”

The latest recruits to EFAPCO membership include Malaga Convention Bureau, Spain; MZ Congressi based in Milan; the Santa Eulalia Conference Centre, on Ibiza and La Greca DMC from Athens.
